I have been dreaming to be a fashion designer since i was 8. I
remembered that i drawn my own paper clothing to play with. When i was
17, i went to Melb, Aust from Hong Kong undertook my degree in RMIT
University. Fashion doesn't choose on that time, but the textile design
faulty. I prayed to God "If this is the way you want me to go, i just go
for it." During my training in textile, I was in Love with texture and
pattern making, i was deeply in the textile concept where it started
amazingly from zero (yarn) to finished (knitted piece). My course
allowed us to learn all textile techniques print, knit and weave before
taking a major. My heart went crazily about knitting-it was finally become the only thing i was crazy about in the next 2 yrs. I love its
movability, i could knit all day wherever i was. But I have never
forgotten my child dream to be a fashion designer. I could see myself as
a fashion designer in 3 years time. Thanks God, my study was
successfully finished.
As soon as I graduated, I went back to Hong Kong. It was then i stop knitting, and i started my career as a Fashion Designer. I have been working on both fashion and textile design for quite a long time, but i just feel like there is something missing in my heart. I asked God "Am i really love fashion?" I didnt get answered, then I stepped one big step backward to search for my answer. In 2009, i went back to school to take a master degree in Fine Arts. Thanks God, my pathway from fashion to textile helped to creative my unique philosophy in fine art.
I prayed 2 years regarding to my job. I keep working as a designer until 2011, I quite my job after graduated from my master degree. From fashion to textile, textile to fine art. This maybe a risk to move on, but i have not regret to do so. I was looking for a dream come true chance to be an artist in my life. I started doing my artwork, but in the same time i also handmade some knitted accessories to sell online to gain money supporting my artist life.
Chance came 2 months later, in the end of Oct I was invited to join Tokyo Designer Week 2011 for my knitted accessories. I wasnt expected to go before and I wasn't ready to go too. I didn't even have any stock products, no packaging, no web site and i don't even have a brand name (my brand name was one of my email a/c name, i just came out quickly once i designed to go). The worst is, i dont even sure if i can get a flight ticket and hotel to go. How can i expect to go in about a week from Hong Kong? The most important was I have only 3-4 products in hand. I asked "How can i get ready to go if i have to handmade everything myself?" God love me so much, I was lucky enough to have friends to help me, finally, there are total 80 pcs of products was amazingly finished. Packaging was beautiful done, product shoot, catalog, price sheet, display all ready in just 1 week. Without taking an extra breathe i went to Tokyo straight after. This is how i started my brand mssa (formerly named immisssasa)
I love mixed my textile skill and fine art background together to get balance between art and design.
So here i am.
